Golf News

Bardwell Valley saw 32 starters on 16 March, a great roll up.  And the results were equally great with John Crowhurst winning the day on 41 points.  In second place was Greg Barter on 39 and Bob Connell on 38.  There was a four-way tie for 4th place with Roger Harriman at the top of the group on 33 points.  The nearest the pins were won by Roger Harriman, Eric Osman and Rob Smith at the 1st; Laurie McMartin, Bob Connell and Edith McVicar at the 3rd; Roger Harriman, Bob Connell and Edith McVicar at the 9th; and Noa Palu and Craig Tomison at the 18th.  The longest drive was won by John Kottaridis, Craig Tomison and John Crowhurst.  John Kottaridis also won the drive and pitch in A grade with Bob Connell and Greg Parsell picking up the B and C grades.

April saw us playing at Camden Valley-a magnificent and challenging course.  The results were very good for such a difficult and long course.  John Kottaridis took the big prize with a very respectable 36 points.  In second was Dave Stewart on 35, followed by Mark Brunetta on 34.  There weren’t many winners in the nearest the pin category, but we did have seven on the greens in regulation.  The A grade winners were Roger Harriman, Dave Stewart, John Kottaridis and Keith Johnson.  In the B grade, Bob Connell and Daniel Stevenson (twice) took the awards.  The longest drives were difficult to keep on the fairway, but Dave Stewart, Bob Connell and Rob Smith managed to do so.  The drive and pitch was won by Laurie McMartin and Eric Osman.  Well done to all.   I must also note that although Rob Smith won the drive and pitch, he had difficulty on the 2nd hole, only managing to dribble the ball just past the lady’s tee and into the water.  As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, he also had an almost air swing on the 9th hole, ‘driving’ the ball about 30 centimetres!!!

Our second outing for April took us to Kogarah even though they wouldn’t open the gates into the car park for us.  The course was in great condition and difficult for most of us.  I cannot remember a time when the all three winners were on the same score, but that was the case today.  Greg Barter took 1st place, Dave Stewart 2nd and Daniel Stevenson 3rd, all on 33 points.  Forth place was Bob Connell on 32.  The nearest the pins went to Laurie McMartin, Daniel Stevenson and Mal Tyler at the 5th; Roger Harriman and Ron Williamson at the 7th; Sione Mahe and Kieran Nulty at the 9th.  John Kottaridis, Daniel Stevenson and Ewen Johnson won the longest drives.  There was only one winner in the drive and pitch category-Sione Mahe.  Well done Sione!

May saw us at Hurstville with a late start and a very late finishing time.  Nevertheless, there were some good scores with John Kottaridis winning his second outing for the year.  He had a gradable 35 points.  In second spot was Daniel Stevenson on 30 and Dave Stewart in 3rd with 29 points.  The nearest the pins were won by John Kottaridis, Greg Barter and Joanne Kinkead at the 2nd; Keith Johnson, Darren Bown and Bill Fonseca at the 11th; Craig Tomison and Joanne Kinkead at the 14th; and Sione Mahe, John Parsell and Bill Fonseca at the 16th.  Keith Johnson and Joe Oriti won the longest drive with Daniel Stevenson winning the drive and pitch.  Although the golf was difficult the day was still very enjoyable.
