Our Annual Challenge against Rockdale RSL was postponed today, but we hope that they will accept the alternative of playing for the Eric Harper Shield at our next game at Bardwell Valley on 27th Nov .
Today we gathered at CHP RSL at 6.30am (with our golf clubs) and took the trip to the south coast in the Club Bus with a little green caboose for the golf bags and Charlie as our driver. The interment little bus produced a great atmosphere accompanied with laughter as “the wheels on the bus went around and around” and ”the people on the bus got off and on, off and on” especially on the trip home
The first part of the journey we had to share the road with hundreds of bike riders in lycra but Cadel Evans wasn’t sighted in the Annual Ride from Sydney to Wollongong. After a detour, through the streets of Albion Rail and checking with the various GPS units and the bread crumbs that Hansel and Gretel had been dropping behind the bus, we arrived at the picturesque Calderwood G.C., under the escarpment of the Southern Highlands.
17 golfers hit off in bright sunshine with plenty of sunscreen on and plenty of water, and the odd JD and Coke in our golf bags. The weather and heat of the day saw our resident south coaster Bob Connell play a few holes before retiring to the shade and the weather only eased later in the day when it rained while we were having our BBQ lunch of sausages and steak rolls and cooked by Eric and Keith washed down with an Ale or Sav Blanc
The local Bush Fire Brigade had to be put on standby as the scoring by the top five of John Kottaridis Eric Osman, Ron Williamson, Peter Deady and Malcolm Tyler was so red hot that the ground was being scorched. John Kottaridis played his best round ever by being 4 under after the first five holes and finishing with 3 under the card, to win the scratch score but in S/B points, only finished 2nd on a countback to Eric. John’s card included two eagles being at the 2nd & 5th. Malcolm Tyler finished the back nine with 29 S/B pts after missing his putt on the 18th but only finished 5th with 42 S/B pts
Glenn Watson used his JC Ball to cross the lake on the 4th hole where his miss hit skimmed across the water with 5 hops as it skimmed then lifted out of the water onto the dry land or grass on the other side of the lake . The lost and found started with the finding of my house keys on the bus, then Melody Thomas losing her new sunnies on the 4th only to discover they were in the glove box compartment section of her golf cart on the 5th
Today’s Golf Game was won by Eric Osman on 45 Stableford points , 2nd John Kottaridis also on 45 S/B pts in a countback, with 3rd Ron Williamson 43 s/b points, 4th Peter Deady also 43 s/b in a count back from 5th Mal Tyler on 42 pts with a group between 41 to 36 points
