A SPORTING CHANCE FOR OUR CHILDREN

A community is only as healthy as its youngest members. Every child should have the opportunity to live an active and healthy lifestyle – especially with child obesity on the rise and in areas where apartment living is more common.

Your Club places great value on the benefi ts of junior sports for kids. We believe that starting from a very young
age, we need to encourage them to be fi t, have fun in physical pursuits and promote confi dence in their abilities. It is our pleasure – and our responsibility – to set good examples, be positive community advocates for their health, and ensure sport and fi tness is accessible and affordable for children. We gladly lend our support to various sporting groups and organisations that are committed to showing our kids how easy and fun it is to get active.

In the past year, we have contributed $69,254 to those committed to doing so.

SUMMER HILL CRICKET CLUB

Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club is immensely proud of Summer Hill Cricket Club, for which we recently helped fund new equipment, a coaching clinic and room hire. Now in its 19th season, this volunteer run, local community sporting group has grown to become the biggest such club in the Inner West. Last season, it fi elded 17 junior boys teams, two girls teams, four senior teams and 60 participants in the under 8s In2Cricket programme.

Part of the success of the Summer Hill Cricket Club has been its strong philosophy promoting participation and
a fair go over winning at all costs. Its fair go policy teaches that every player has a valuable contribution to make, which goes beyond taking wickets and scoring runs. Last season, Summer Hill Cricket Club also launched Pledge Not 2 Sledge, a programme for junior players that encourages players to keep the game free from bullying and to maximise enjoyment and participation.

“Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club has been a generous sponsor of the Summer Hill Cricket Club since 2006,”
said John Bowdler. “This sponsorship has enabled the purchase of shirts and hats for players and offi cials, and assisted our club in so many ways. From all the kids and players at Summer Hill Cricket Club, a big thank you!”

WE ALSO CONGRATULATE…

Belmore PCYC for organising their 2010 Amateur Boxing Tournament. It was great to see sixteen youths aged between 12 and 20 participate in the annual event we were proud to support. Canterbury Junior Rugby Union Football Club’s players were also deservingly treated to new clothes, coaching aids and trophies as a result of Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club’s sponsorship.

“We would struggle without the generous sponsorship from Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club, which has provided funding for coaching courses, team jerseys and end of year presentation prizes,” said Tevita Katafono, Club President of Canterbury Junior Rugby Club. Other groups your Club have recently supported include: Earlwood Saints Junior Rugby League Football Club, the Australian Academy of Gymnastics, Marrickville Hardcourt Tennis Association and Hurlstone Park Wanderers.
