In the spirit of good sportsmanship

As part of our continual support of our local community, our Club is proud to support numerous sporting associations, promoting a healthy lifestyle to our children.

In the past 12 months, our Club has donated $37,450 to sporting groups as part of the CDSE scheme. Canterbury Junior Rugby Club, Earlwood Saints Junior Rugby League Football Club, Hurlstone Park Cricket Club, Marrickville Soccer Club, Hurlstone Park Wanderers, Marrickville Harcour Tennis Association & the Summer Hill Cricket Club have received funding from our Club to assist with equipment, uniforms, fees & venue hire.
In many cases funding from our Club provides the lifeblood that allows the very existence of the different organisations that we support, improving the fabric of life for the community in which we live.

Sporting clubs, such as Canterbury Junior Rugby Union Club, are an integral part of the community, owned & operated by their members & they share a responsibility to advance the welfare of that community in any way they can. Our Club has been proud to support Canterbury Junior Rugby Union Club for several years & to foster an environment where our children have the opportunity to play local sport and be a part of a team community.
Run by volunteer coach staff & managers, Canterbury Junior Rugby Union Club provides a safe, fun & family–oriented juniors club for kids aged U6 to U16’s. With emphasis on skills development, participation & enjoyment, the club comprises of a truly multicultural melting pot with players of many cultural origins & of a broad socio–economical spectrum, which is a true reflection of our local community.

Tevita Katafono, Club President of Canterbury Junior Rugby Union Club, notes that support from our Club has “provided funding for coaching courses, team jerseys & end of year presentation prizes.  Without such generous sponsorship, Canterbury Junior Rugby Union Club would struggle to provide the kids of this area who are interested in sports an attractive place to belong.”  As Assistant CEO of our Club, David Horder notes; “The relationship with the Canterbury Junior Rugby Club is essential to our Club so we can continue to bring people from all persuasions together so that their future generations will not only support their children & expose them to sport but also educate them on the sacrifices made by those who established RSL Clubs, such as Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club.”

“It is these constituent groups that form the framework for essential community values that we as a Club rely upon to foster not only good working relationships but the continuation of us as a Club to provide a place in which these groups can meet, celebrate & reflect in.”  Our Club supports over 100 local community, schools & sporting associations & has contributed $390 000 in 2008/09. Grants under the CDSE scheme are made on an annual basis.  For further information, please contact David Horder, Assistant CEO davidh@chprsl.com.au
