Marcia Hines

We are delighted to have the legendary Australian "First Lady of Song," return to the club for an unforgettable evening of music.  From her first solo appearance at the stage of nine at a church festival, Marcia Hines showed she was a superstar in the making.  Bursting onto the scene in the swinging 60's with the age of the musical "Hair", Marcia was to entrance audiences worldwide.  She was to become the first black singer in the world to play Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar, a role that won her much acclaim.

Marcia played the white house with the Daly Wilson Jazz Band in 1974, supporting BB King and Wilson Pickett in Las Vegas.  She signed a record deal in 1974 with Wizard records and her second album in October 1976 "Shining" produced probably her biggest hit "I just don't know what to do with myself." In 1977 she reached number 1 on the national charts with her single "You."

The ensuring years followed Marcia appearing periodically on TV and at concerts, while she concentrated on her personal life and the onset of Diabetes.  She released her first album in 12 years in 1994 "Right here and Now." In 2000 Marcia's song "Rise" was selected as the official song for the Australian Olympic team, bringing great pride to our home games in Sydney.  Her latest album "Hinesight - Songs From The Journey" is currently available.

She is one of Australia's most successful artists, a three times crowned Queen of Pop, a mentor to future Australian Idols and a much loved entertainer.  We welcome back the legendary diva - Marcia Hines.
